Top places to see
Edit
Temples around Siem Reap are amazing and one of the best things to do in SE Asia. To do properly you will need at least 3 days. You can buy a 3 day pass. Probably not worth going to the more remote northern sites since the ones in the main hub are much better. You will need to get a tuk-tuk, and worth hiring for a day or two. You can bike from siem reap to the temples but it's not recommended unless you're an avid cyclist. Old market is the most vibrant place to stay with plenty of nightlife, accomodation and restaurants. For a quieter stay go a bit further out. Phnom Peng is the captial and there's plenty to see and do here, including many temples. It's also worth a day trip to the killing fields. Ratanakiri (Ban lung) is a remote part of cambodia in the north west. If you like outdoor pursuits then it's worth a trip but it's not the easiest place to get to (2 days) and you may be crammed in a truck with 30 other people. Once you're there there is plenty of remote jungle treking, waterfalls and lots of outdoor activities. You will not see many other travellers around these parts. South of Phnom peng you should head to Sihanoukville which is a costal town with many excellent beaches.

Travelling to and away
Edit
You can fly directly into Phnom Peng, but flying into Bangkok will probably be cheaper. There are cheap buses from either Bangkok(Thailand) or Ho Chi Min City (Vietnam). Note that you will need a visa to cross the border. Try and cross the boarders at the main border crossings. We crossed at Chou Doc and it was a bad idea. No transport, communication problems and ended up taking a lot more time.
Travelling around the country
Edit
For long journey's bus or coach is the best way to travel. There is the option of getting a boat between Siem Reap and Phnom Peng which is a great option. For short journey's or day hire around town tuk-tuks are best.
